Questions pool hosts ask
The basics
Tilt is pool hosting for the person who runs the pool. It takes the picks, locks them on time, grades the games, and keeps the standings, all under the rules you set. It was built by a commissioner after 13 seasons running one pool.
The commissioner. If you run an NFL pool or a golf pool for friends, coworkers, a club or a bar, and it costs you more weekends than it should, Tilt is for you.
No. Tilt is software for a private pool you already run. It is not a sportsbook and takes no wagers.
Never. You set the entry fee, you hold the pot, and you pay the winners. Tilt takes no cut and processes no payments. It can track who has paid if you want it to.
Running a pool
NFL Pick'em, Pick-5 and Survivor are live now. Pop-up pools, playoff pools and Super Bowl squares are next. Golf pools return for the 2027 season.
Yes. Spreads, lock times, push rules, tiebreakers, multiple entries, missed picks, lives and buybacks are settings. We love the weird formats and the odd rules. If you don't see the option you want, tell us and we'll build it.
Tell us your rules. You get an invite link to send your players, and they can join right away while we tune the format and rules to your liking.
No app. Players sign in with Google or a one-time email code, then pick on their phone.
Yes. Send what you ran it on: a sheet, a screenshot, last year's rules. You get back a live pool built to those rules and one invite link to forward. How switching works →
How pools work
Each player picks one NFL team to win each week. Win and you survive; lose and you take a strike. You can't pick the same team twice. The last player standing wins. Hosts choose how many lives and whether buybacks are allowed. If the last survivors are knocked out in the same week, they split the pot. NFL Survivor on Tilt →
A survivor pool that starts mid-season, so players knocked out of their first pool can play again. Every team is available from the start week.
Most Masters pools use tiers: the field is split into groups and each player picks one golfer per group. Scores are added up and the lowest total wins. Hosts choose the groups, how missed cuts are scored, and whether the worst scores drop. The pool Tilt was built from started with eight categories and grew to nine, with one rule that made it: a golfer could be listed in several categories, but you could use him only once.
Cost
$1 per entry, with a $49 minimum per pool. One rate for every format. Pools over 500 entries get a quote. Full pricing →
Yes. A season-long pool's first four weeks are free. A pool that starts mid-season gets two weeks. For golf, the first event is free: we walk through it together, tune the pool, and you're billed after the second event. You pay only if the pool is running.
Once, when your free period ends, by card through a payment link. The fee is set on the number of entries at that point.
No ads, ever. Your players see your pool and nothing else.
No. The host pays. Many hosts add the per-entry cost to the buy-in.
Trust
It's yours. Tilt doesn't sell it, rent it, or market to your players.
